Operations resume after flights diverted on airport radar system error | UK | News

Birmingham Airport diverted incoming flights due to a power outage that affected a radar system. The technical glitch, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12, resulted in only departing flights being able to operate from the airport.

The problem at a National Air Traffic Service’s (NATS) radar site also caused significant delays. Several flights were rerouted to East Midlands Airport and Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, The Mirror reported.

« Due to a technical issue with NATS’ radar that serves Birmingham Airport, only departing flights are currently operating, with some delays, » a spokesperson said.

« All arriving flights are currently suspended. We apologise for the delay to customers, and we are working closely with NATS to rectify the issue, » the spokesperson added.
