Chief Inspector Ian Partington, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: « This was a shocking incident of violence, and our thoughts remain with the victim at this incredibly difficult time.
« I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are taken extremely seriously and our officers are currently exhausting all lines of enquiry to locate the suspect.
« We understand this is a concerning incident, and we have extra patrols in the area following this incident. I encourage anyone with concerns to please speak with our officers who are there to support.
« A scene remains in place and our officers have worked through the night to conduct their investigation. I urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone from the area at the time to please report to us. »
