A mum-of-three who snatched up a dream home in an Omaze competition is still on the hunt for a buyer after putting the prize property on the market last year.
Rachael Reid, aged 54, was overjoyed to win a luxurious six-bedroom bungalow near Farnham, Surrey, in July, nabbing the opulent home that features a 40ft indoor heated swimming pool and gym nestled within 1.4 acres – all for a mere £10 ticket.
Eager to turn her win into hard cash, she put the house up for sale on Rightmove through Savills in December, with an eye-watering price tag of £2,950,000.
Fast forward to March 25th, the Mirror’s peek into the listing shows a hefty cut – the price plummeted by £200,000. It’s now up for grabs at £2,750,000, still promising a staggering profit for Rachael and Darren, her husband of three decades, who luxuriated in the house for several months before deciding to sell up.
Speaking on their choice to trade the abode for millions, Rachael, originally from Inverness, shared: « I still can’t believe it really happened to us – winning a multi-million-pound house in Surrey has changed our lives forever. We’ve really enjoyed spending time at the house – it’s been magical and the whole family has loved it. All the locals have been lovely and welcoming – it’s a fantastic area.
« The money I also got as part of my big win means if we wanted to, we could stay here for years and never have to worry about any costs – but we love where we live now, so we’ve decided to sell up and cash in – so we can buy an amazing house a bit closer to all our family and friends in Scotland.
« The money from the sale will change everything for the entire family – it’s just incredible – we’re all so excited for the future – we might even build our very own Omazing house!
« Entering Omaze was the best decision I ever made – I wish anyone who enters the best of luck, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone! »
On the listing on Rightmove, Savills commented: « This immaculate six bedroom property has been developed to a very high standard to create a contemporary country home with stylish interiors throughout. »
The property boasts a renovated bungalow complete with a detached pool house featuring a shower, gym, sauna, and changing room. A grand gravel driveway leads up to solid wood electric gates at its entrance.
An architectural marvel, the house offers a vast entrance hallway that opens into a drawing room crowned by a vaulted ceiling that gazes out upon the secluded rear garden and includes a striking Purbeck stone chimney fireplace.
The kitchen and dining area are adorned with oak flooring, featuring an island complete with a breakfast bar. The property also boasts a spacious living room, a study, and a master bedroom equipped with a seating area, French doors leading to the patio, a walk-in wardrobe, and a luxurious en suite bathroom.
Additionally, the house comes with an outdoor kitchen fitted with concrete worktops and built-in cupboards, as well as an open fireplace. The expansive 1.4-acre grounds encompass beautifully landscaped gardens and a wooded area.
Savills described the location as a « sought-after village », with the country home situated just four miles from Farnham and 8.9 miles from Guildford. They further noted that the area is ideally positioned for commuters.
A spokesperson from Omaze stated: « Whatever their circumstances, all Omaze winners have several fantastic life changing options available to them. Omaze is immensely proud to have created 35 millionaires whilst also raising more than £81 million for good causes in the UK since it launched here. »
Savills estate agents were approached for comment on the price reduction prior to the publication of this story but chose not to respond.
