American soldiers in Syria have reportedly been wounded in a shooting ambush, as several casualties are reported. Four US troops and two more Syrian personnel are thought to have been injured, with some in critical condition, after the attack on US and allied soldiers.
The squad is thought to have been on a convoy in the area during a mission to help combat terror groups around the central Syrian town of Palmyra. A gunman is thought to have opened fire on the vehicles during a patrol, with helicopters soon being drafted into airlift the injured soldiers to a US military base on the border with Iraq.
According to local media, the attacker was shot dead at the scene.
Fox News reported that the US Department of War was “aware of reports” but added that they will not be providing additional information at this time.
The U.S has around 1,500 troops deployed in the area to aid in coalition with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-led militia, in an attempt to combat the so-called Islamic State, also known as ISIS.
Since former Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad was ousted last year, American troops have been steadily withdrawn as ISIS continues to try to re-grow.
A decade ago, 30,000 fighters from around the world were drafted and groomed into joining the Islamic terror network, including 900 Brits, and since the Assad regime ended, it has tried to increase its recruitment once again.
They are now reported to be using AI tools to amplify their propaganda around the world into dozens of different languages.
The attack comes only weeks after Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and President Donald Trump enjoyed a very warm meeting on November 10, which led to the new Middle Eastern leader saying he would help the US fight Islamist terror groups in Syria.
