A forest dubbed the “most magical in the UK” is being compared to the enchanted backdrops of New Zealand, from the iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy.
There’s no shortage of beautiful, scenic spots in the UK, with vast, rolling hills and flat plains up and down the country; serene and stunning beaches; not to mention the rugged, mountainous spots littered throughout England and Wales; the sweeping beauty and tranquil lochs of Scotland; and much more.
Despite its diminutive size, there’s also an abundance of woodland areas and forests throughout the country, though one in particular has garnered praise for its “magical” and enchanted vibes.
In a video shared on TikTok, the beautiful Puzzlewood rainforest was highlighted and praised. Based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, it’s home to huge twisted trees, mossy gorges, wooden bridges offering an otherworldly feel, and many scenic views.
It served as a filming location for many major productions including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Doctor Who, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Merlin and more.
Described as “a unique and ancient woodland” and “rare temperate rainforest”, the popular site is ideal for those craving an exciting yet beautiful excursion. It boasts more than “200 narrow, uneven steps that can be slippery, especially in wet weather”, so “sturdy footwear with sufficient grip is essential”.
In April, Puzzlewood is open daily to visitors, with adult admission charged at £9.90 and children charged at £8.50. Concessions are available for disabled people, carers and the elderly. Puzzlewood has on-site animals, so pets aren’t permitted.
Accompanying a video tour shared on TikTok, creator @anxietyadventures2000 penned: “The most magical forest in the UK! So many TV Shows and Movies have been filmed here and on our visit it felt like stepping into Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke! A must visit attraction”.
Viewers were keen to share their thoughts in the comments section beneath the clip. One person said: “I love this place, Puzzlewood makes you feel like you are in Lord of the Rings.”
Another shared: “I went on Monday and it was amazing.” A third shared: “I have been there, it is very beautiful and the pictures you can get there are amazing but my shoes were a mess after that trip. They were all in some sort of clay or dirt [I don’t know] but it’s worth going”.
Someone else simply commented: “It is lovely there” while another said: “as a local to this place, it is a must visit”.
Another fan said: “Literally just got back from there, it was amazing” and another said: “it looks like it’s from a beautiful tale of a woodland Princess”.
Someone else added: “One of my favourite places!!! It’s the best when it’s just been raining”.
