Moscow rocked by bomb attack as man ‘sets off device’ at train station | World | News

Moscow was rocked by a deadly blast on February 24, when a man allegedly set off a bomb next to a police car.  According to the reports, the incident occurred minutes after midnight local time on Tuesday (21:06 GMT, Monday), near the Russian capital’s Savyolovsky train station.

Russian Ministry for Internal Affairs said that two other officers have been injured in the attack and are currently undergoing treatment. The details on the assailant or a motive for the bomb attack have not been released yet. According to the ministry, an attacker approached traffic police officers sitting in their patrol vehicle, and then an explosive device detonated, killing the attacker and one police officer.

Russia‘s Investigative Committe has initiated a case for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and for the illegal possession of explosive devices.

According to Russia’s state TASS news agency, the Investigative Committee said: « As a result of actions by the attacker, one traffic policeman sustained injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene of the incident. Two more policemen were taken to a city hospital, where they are being given medical assistance. »

This is not the first time that Moscow has witnessed an attack. The latest bomb blast comes on the day that marks the fourth anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In December 2025, a car bomb killed Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who headed the Russian General Staff’s training department. Two days later, another explosion in the same area of Moscow claimed three more lives, including two police officers.
