Netflix has introduced a gripping new Spanish thriller that certainly warrants a spot at the summit of your streaming queue this week.
Arriving on the platform last Friday (20th February), it has already sparked considerable buzz amongst viewers captivated by its distinctive storyline.
Helmed by David Victori, Firebreak is a tense psychological thriller centring on a family confronting overwhelming challenges and an unthinkable moral quandary.
When a young girl vanishes in the woodland near their residence, her mother Mara (portrayed by Belén Cuesta) battles against the clock to locate her before she falls victim to an encroaching wildfire.

Review platform Tom’s Guide praised the compelling thriller, branding it amongst the « most intense movies of 2026 » thus far.
They noted that Firebreak is « packed with twists » and offers « high stakes, emotional urgency, and a constant sense that the situation could tip in an even darker direction at any moment ».
An enthusiastic review on Rotten Tomatoes described it as a « nerve-wracking and intense film », though cautioned that certain aspects of the family drama might prove irksome for some audiences.

Acclaim extended to Letterboxd where one viewer awarded Firebreak four stars, commenting: « Honestly I was glued to the screen the entire time the tension was so real and that ending caught me completely off guard.
« The performances were top notch, they captured panic and frustration so effectively. A tightly paced thriller that kept me hooked. »
Another viewer confessed: « This movie had me guessing every second only for me to be completely wrong! »
Meanwhile, an IMDb user described the film as both « mind and emotion bending », continuing: « I love the movie. In my opinion, it has a unique story line and plot twist.
