The Met Office has delivered its verdict on the possibility of snow in the coming week as February comes to a close. Cloud and rain have been forecast for the next few days, particularly in the UK’s north and west. Other parts of the country may be luckier, with « pleasant spells of sunshine », the weather agency said.
Wednesday to Friday’s outlook states: « Rain in the north and west on Wednesday. Drier in the southeast with pleasant spells of sunshine. Wetter and windier for all on Thursday. Cooler, with sunshine and showers Friday. » However, things may take a turn for the worse towards the end of the week, as weather systems travel in from the Atlantic.
This makes conditions more changeable, though rain and wind are expected to remain, according to the Met Office‘s long range forecast.
There is the possiblity of snow in northern areas of high ground, with most other places seeing « drier and more settled periods » and potentially above average temperatures.
The forecast for February 28 to March 9 reads: « Changeable conditions are expected, with Atlantic frontal systems spreading across the UK, interspersed with drier and brighter interludes.

« Rainfall will typically be heaviest in the northwest, with much less reaching sheltered eastern areas.
« Some snow is possible across high ground in the north. Drier and more settled periods perhaps become more prolonged later in the period, especially in the east.
« Winds will probably be strong at times, with a risk of gales. Temperatures are likely to be near to or slightly above average. »
