Met office names areas where snow is forecast to fall before February | Weather | News

However, according to the forecaster, the conditions will turn snowy for many areas in the country before we step into the next month. The Met Office forecast for the next few days said that parts of the northwest and southwest are more likely to see snow showers tonight and on Saturday (January 31). At present, yellow warnings for rain are in force for Northern Ireland and southwest England, with an additional Yellow warning in place across southwest England for early next week as further rainfall is expected in areas already affected by flooding

According to the National Weather Agency, low pressure remains in charge for the weekend, with further outbreaks of rain or showers on Saturday for many parts of the UK, though this tending to turn more showery on Sunday with some drier and brighter interludes in places.

Temperatures will remain close to the seasonal average for most, but colder air will persist in the far northeast, supporting the continued risk of hill snow.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Dan Holley, explained the reasons behind the current unsettled outlook: “We’ll continue to see a strong and south-shifted jet stream well into next week, which will steer further low pressure systems close to the UK from the North Atlantic.

« These will bring further spells of rain at times, accompanied by strengthening winds, with an ongoing risk of flooding in sensitive areas. There will also be some hill snow at times in the north as this wet weather engages with colder air here.”

Nick Finnis, a meterologts with Netweather.tv wrote in the blog: « With low pressure close to the southwest, further rain looks to push in from the south or southwest early next week, reaching most areas, generally rain heaviest and most persistent towards the south and west, though with a southeasterly or easterly flow in the north picking up moisture off the North Sea, like this week, higher ground of eastern Scotland could again see the largest rainfall totals. Snow rather than rain falling over high ground in the north too, as cold air spreads over the North Sea from the east at times. »
