Meghan Markle‘s best pal, Abigail Spencer, has made her stance clear on the duchess’s new Netflix show just days after it received mostly negative reviews from criticswith a telling, four-word comment. The Duchess of Sussex launched With Love, Meghan on the streaming giant earlier this month.
While fans reacted with mixed enthusiasm, and the show climbed on Netflix‘s Global Top 10 list of its most-watched programmes, critics gave it mostly scathing reviews. The Guardian’s review said: « Kiss the Netflix deal goodbye! With Love, Meghan is so pointless it might be the Sussexes’ last TV show. » The Telegraph gave it two stars and said: « It is, to put it kindly, insane. An exercise in narcissism, filled with extravagant brunches, celebrity pals and business plugs. »
Even Hollywood bible Vanity Fair said the new show is a « Montecito ego trip not worth taking ».
Now, Ms Spencer, who also appears in the show, has given a new interview following the criticism and gave a heartfelt four-worded verdict on her pal’s show, saying: « This is her heart. »
Speaking to Hello!, the actress said: « Meghan is the hostess with the most. Literally, for years, she has been like this.
« But I really was there just to support her and surround her. This is her heart, that show is her heart, it was so natural and [I was] really just there to have fun and to delight in her and to be a safe space.
« I think that comes through. »
On her relationship with the duchess, the Hollywood star said: « We have a very private friendship so choosing to let people in on part of that is…it’s very private but I’m glad that we got to share a little bit of it. »
