Manchester United have little time remaining before the transfer window presents an opportunity to bolster their squad. The Red Devils secured four new additions last summer but opted against pursuing reinforcements during the January window.

Michael Carrick has steered United to third position in the Premier League table throughout his two months at the helm as the club’s interim head coach. Such performances have sparked considerable speculation regarding whether the 44-year-old might secure the role permanently at the season’s conclusion.

Champions League qualification is expected to significantly influence what business United could conduct when the summer transfer window opens.

Here, Express Sport examines some of the latest United transfer news and speculation that has surfaced over the past 24 hours.

United are being linked once more with a potential move for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali. The Italy international has been mentioned as a possible target for the Red Devils in recent weeks, having also been linked with Arsenal on deadline day.

According to The I Paper, United hold a genuine interest in Tonali as the summer transfer window draws near, with Newcastle having clarified their position.

The Magpies reportedly value Tonali at a figure exceeding £100million, which could make the midfielder the most expensive Premier League signing should an agreement be reached. United are expected to pursue a new midfielder this summer, particularly with Casemiro poised to depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Express Sport says: Tonali is undoubtedly amongst the Premier League’s finest midfielders, and his familiarity with the league from his spell at Newcastle would help his adaptation at Old Trafford should a transfer to United come to fruition. Nevertheless, if the reported valuation exceeding £100million proves accurate, it would represent a significant test of the Reds Devils’ willingness to meet such demands.

United are reported to remain committed to letting Andre Onana leave the club on a permanent deal this summer once the transfer window commences. Onana is currently on loan at Trabzonspor, having departed Old Trafford last summer as the club secured Senne Lammens as their new number one goalkeeper.

According to The Sun, Onana features amongst four goalkeepers that United intend to move on during the summer.

It has been suggested that United would require a minimum fee of £18.88million for Onana’s services to prevent registering a loss under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Despite this development, it appears unlikely that Onana will complete a permanent switch to Trabzonspor, with the Turkish outfit having outlined their definitive position.

« As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m (£40-43m), our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities, » Trabzonspor vice president Zeyyat Kafkas told Gunebakıs.

Express Sport says: Onana’s future at United has remained uncertain for some time, and there was the expectation that the goalkeeper would join Trabzonspor on a permanent basis this summer. However, given the Super Lig club’s stance, the Red Devils will now have a task on their hands to potentially find a new club for Onana.
