Manchester United‘s hopes of securing a £70million deal for Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi have been bolstered, with reports suggesting that his wife is keen for him to relocate to a major European city. According to BILD, the player’s new agent, Jorge Mendes, has already held preliminary discussions with United in November. Adeyemi is reportedly taking his wife’s preferences into account as he contemplates his future at Dortmund.
The forward has been negotiating a contract extension with his current club, with a particular focus on including a release clause. Dortmund are hesitant to agree to this and with Adeyemi’s current contract set to expire in 2027, there are concerns he could depart for a lower fee. The club is said to be pushing for a £70.2m (€80m) release clause, but the player has other factors to consider.
Mendes has also engaged in talks with Inter Milan, and a move to either Manchester or Milan would align with Adeyemi’s wife’s desires. However, it remains to be seen if United will officially approach the 23-year-old, given their significant summer spending.
Ruben Amorim revamped his attacking line-up by signing Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined fee exceeding £200m.
Reports suggest that United are also keen to recruit a central midfielder, with Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton all linked with potential moves to Old Trafford.
Adeyemi primarily operates on the flanks and has found the net 32 times in 127 outings across all competitions for Dortmund, whilst also providing 22 assists for his team-mates.
The Germany international recently faced legal trouble, receiving a €450,000 (£394,945) fine for possessing two prohibited weapons – a knuckleduster and a taser – both requiring official permits under German law.
Taking to Instagram, Adeyemi issued an apology for the incident, stating: « You have probably seen the headlines about me in the last few days. It is not easy for me to talk about this.
« At the beginning of 2024, out of carelessness and without really thinking about what I was doing, I ordered a so-called ‘mystery box’ on the internet.
« It contained items that are not permitted under weapons legislation. Many months later, the package was delivered and ended up unopened at the police station.
« Nevertheless, it was a huge mistake. One that I am very sorry about, that cost me dearly and that I deeply regret. I know that I am in the public eye and have a role model function. I did not live up to that.
« That is precisely why it hurts me all the more that I acted so recklessly. I have learned more from this than I can put into words. And I promise you that I will avoid such mistakes in the future. Thank you to everyone who still trusts and supports me. »
