Man Utd and Arsenal target Mathys Tel ‘left out of squad’ as star weighs up £50m transfer | Football | Sport

Mathys Tel will reportedly be left out of Bayern Munich’s squad today with the forward braced to make a decision over his future. Manchester United and Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs who have been linked with a blockbuster transfer for the exciting forward.

Tel made a rare start in Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Wednesday but has had his situation monitored by several English clubs. Tottenham were said to be closing in on a deal before that move reportedly collapsed.

The 19-year-old also has interest from Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea. It is claimed that he has grown frustrated over a lack of game time in Germany, making only eight league appearances this season and just two as a starter.

Tel is set to weigh up his future this weekend ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline. According to Sky Germany, he will be excluded for Bayern’s game today while he makes that decision.

Despite Bayern claiming that Tel has asked to leave, the Frenchman has reportedly not ruled out remaining with the Bavarian club. He signed a new contract last March which ties him to the Bundesliga leaders until 2029.

Spurs had agreed a £50m deal with Bayern to sign Tel but the player is said to have been unconvinced by a move to the north Londoners.

Asked about his future after Bayern’s European triumph on Wednesday, Tel simply said: « I don’t know. »

Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, revealed that many clubs have enquired about Tel’s availability. “We spoke in December and Mathys said he wanted to settle down. Now he says he wants to leave. We have to think about whether we will do that and what we will do,” the 51-year-old said.

“He said that the playing time was not enough for him and that is understandable. However, we would like him to keep fighting. There is no bad blood. I can understand him. I have rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”

Tel, a versatile attacker who predominantly plays wide but can feature through the middle, has struggled for game time in a squad packed with forward talent. He is competing for a place with Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise and Leroy Sane.

Several Premier League clubs are interested in signing a new forward before the window closes on Monday. It remains to be seen whether Tel completes a move.
