A tiny town in Majorca boasts beautiful landscapes for hikers to explore and top notch beaches – without the hordes of tourists. Escorca is a municipality in northwest of the Balearic island, but it’s said to be much quieter than other areas.
Census data suggests it has a population of only around 200, thought it’s home to underrated beauty spots and impressive architecture. Majorca Daily, an English language news outlet based in Spain, says the coastline « hides real gems such as Cala Tuent and Sa Calobra, unspoilt beaches where the sea meets the mountains in a breathtaking natural spectacle ». But according to the website, which described it as Majorca’s smallest town, the municipality’s « jewel in the crown » is the 13th-century Monastery of Lluc, regarded as the most important points of pilgrimage on the island.
There are also plenty of hotel options in and around the monstery, as well as a restaurants, and a botanical garden within the sanctuary.
Escorca also home to some of Majorca’s tallest peaks, the outlet says, providing beautiful views and challenging terrain for hikers and cyclists.
Meanwhile, Nus de Sa Corbata, a winding road that leads to the picturesque Sa Calobra, has become well known for its striking design, particularly a 270-degree turn that sees the road raise over itself.
One TripAdvisor reviewer who left a review in May last year wrote: « Incredible, we went on a motorcycle and the views were beautiful.
They added that it is « advisable to go early » to avoid « a lot of traffic from cars, cyclists and buses ».
The municipality is expected to see temperatures fluctuating between 11 and 16C through April, according to Accuweather.
However it can get far hotter in the summer months, and has been known to rise about 30 in August, as per Weather and Climate.
Flights from the UK to Palma, the nearest airport to Escorca, last around two hours and 35 mins, and start from around £30, as per Skyscanner.
Escorca is then around 37 minutes away by car or 47 minutes with a combination of a train and a taxi, as per Rome to Rio.
