A « serious crash » on the M6 has seen a huge stretch of the major UK motorway closed for several miles. The M6 sounthbound in Cheshire is closed between junction 19 (Knutsford) and junction 18 (Middlewich) after a car left the carriageway overnight.
Chesire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, and North West Ambulance Service have rushed to the scene. National Highways North West has warned motorists the road closure will last for « several hours' » and that they should allow additional times for the journeys.. The traffic service wrote on X: « The #M6 southbound remains closed between J19 (#Knutsford) and J18 (#Middlewich), #Cheshire due to a collision. Traffic in the closure is being released past the scene in 1 lane. Collision investigation and vehicle recovery required. Expect road to be closed for several hours. »
