Liverpool threw away precious points in stoppage time yet again as they drew 1-1 with struggling Tottenham at Anfield in another damaging result for their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick lit up an otherwise tight first half but replays showed Guglielmo Vicario should have done better in the Spurs goal.

The match turned into more of an end-to-end contest after the break and Richarlison struck the north London outfit level in the 90th minute to salvage a valuable point for Spurs in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Thanks to Chelsea and Aston Villa’s losses earlier in the weekend, Arne Slot‘s defending champions had a chance to jump up to fourth but remain fifth, two points behind Villa. Liverpool player ratings vs Tottenham

Alisson – 8

Very good on his return to the team despite Liverpool failing to win. Made a good first-half save from Souza before two even better stops to deny Richarlison. Finished the game with six saves despite conceding.

Moved back to right-back and defended well against Mathys Tel, cleaning up multiple Spurs attacks. Scored another free-kick, his fourth this season, to move up to 11 goals across all competitions.

Had some good grapples with Richarlison including one inside the box where the Dutchman did very well to make it as hard as possible for the Brazilian to score while not conceding a penalty. But left a big gap for the Spurs equaliser.

His first Premier League start at centre-back since December 2024 and was largely solid defensively until the Spurs goal where he got dragged across to the ball and left Richarlison in too much space to score.

Alert defensively when he came across well to thwart a dangerous Dominic Solanke cross into Souza in the first half. But really poor for the Spurs goal, getting lost under a long ball forward, which sees him marked down.

Should have done better with one first-half shot after a great turn. Relatively quiet second half before a deflected shot fell straight into Vicario’s hands. Won plenty of his duels.

Won the free-kick Szoboszlai scored from and would have had an assist from Gakpo’s shot if not for Vicario but another hit-and-miss performance overall from the Argentine who was poor in the second half.

A conductor in attack and on several occasions played passes which his team-mates should have done better from. But also guilty of pushing Ngumoha too wide with his pass at one promising second-half opening.

Nice and direct on the right wing but Djed Spence matched him for pace on several occasions. Played a great ball across to find Ngumoha before he fired wide but otherwise largely ineffective.

Blazed one shot comically wide in the first half. Had another much better one tipped onto the post by Vicario. But worked really hard off the ball and made some great tackles.

Took time to grow into it up against Pedro Porro on his first Premier League start. Some really exciting runs and was electric in 1v1 dribbles, including one great piece of skill to help pick out Florian Wirtz in the box. Hs overall end product was a bit raw, as should probably be expected.

Substitutes

Curtis Jones (Ngumoha 64) – 5

Was too weak in midfield.

Mohamed Salah (Frimpong 64) – 7

Looked nice and sharp and was heavily involved. A great turn led to Ekitike’s shooting chance and had a shot deflected wide. Almost put Ekitike in on goal to make it 2-0 and then fired one just wide after winning the ball off Radu Dragusin. Some terrific touches.

Hugo Ekitike (Wirtz 64) – 6

Almost put one shot out for a throw-in and inches from a squad Salah ball which would have left him 1v1. Should have scored an equaliser at a late counter-attack.

Trey Nyoni (Gakpo 84) – N/A

A late cameo for the promising young midfielder.

Federico Chiesa (Mac Allister 90+1) – N/A
