Liverpool are reportedly set to list five first-team players for sale in the summer. This supposedly includes Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister.
According to The Sun, Gakpo, Joe Gomez, Mac Allister and Federico Chiesa will all be put on the transfer list when the summer window opens.
In addition to these potential sales, Curtis Jones’ future is also uncertain and Ibrahima Konate has yet to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring in June. There could also be a change at the top, with sporting director Richard Hughes a reported target for Saudi Pro League clubs.
All things considered, including Salah’s departure, the Reds could part ways with seven first-team players in the forthcoming window. Slot’s team splashed out a staggering £450million last summer.
When questioned in December about why this campaign hasn’t been as triumphant as his first, Slot stated: « I think if you bring in a lot of new players and a lot of players are gone, usually you see them playing better football after they’ve been together a bit longer.
« There’s more training time, there’s more playing time together. I think you could see this last season because that team was all the same with Jurgen [Klopp] the year before.
« Especially the first half of the season, I thought we played some very good football. That’s helpful if players are together longer, and I think history has shown many times that the longer players are playing together, the bigger chance you have of winning something.
« If you add players to what you have, there’s also a serious chance of improving. If you replace, like we’ve done, then it takes time, and then usually it gets better after a certain period of time. »
