Khamenei ‘dead’ UPDATES: Trump claims Iranian leader is dead | World | News

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in huge Israeli-US airstrikes, Donald Trump has claimed. Iranian state media earlier denied Israeli reports that the dictator is dead, adding that Khamenei is safe and sound and is « commanding the field ». But on Saturday night, shortly before 9.45pm GMT, the US President took to Truth Social to claim the Iranian Supreme Leader had died.

He wrote: « Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead. This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS. » Mr Trump, whose forces joined Israeli strikes in Operation Epic Fury overnight, claimed the Iranian leader was « unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do ».

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously hinted Khamenei could have been killed, saying: « The plan to destroy Israel no longer exists, and there is a high likelihood that the tyrant Khamenei does not either. » Aerial pictures show the compound of Khamenei being largely destroyed following the strikes. The US and Israel launched strikes across Iran, with Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to overthrow the government. Following the wave of attacks launched by the US and Iran, retaliatory Iranian strikes have been rocking several Middle Eastern countries for the whole days.
