Kevin Hart yells ‘I’m not a star’ as he steals the show at Masters | Golf | Sport

Kevin Hart was heard shouting: « I am not a star, » while caddying for Bryson DeChambeau at the Masters on Wednesday evening. The Hollywood heavyweight traded the big screen for the greens and fairways of Augusta National, serving as DeChambeau’s trusted companion for the par three competition.

In a remarkable interview with Sky Sports during the event, Hart was swift to spell out his intentions. When quizzed about his crucial role, the comedian said: « To be the best caddie that’s ever caddied. Guy’s I am not Kevin Hart the global superstar today.

« Please get that out of your mental. Not the movie star, the stand-up comedian that everybody knows around the world – throw it in the bag. Today I am Bryson’s caddie. »

As the reporter turned to DeChambeau to discuss how the pair had joined forces, Hart was spotted turning to the gallery and shouting: « I am not a star, » while thrusting his hands into the air. Reflecting on their bond, DeChambeau explained: « We’ve been talking a lot about golf, he’s gotten into it over the past seven months. And he’s become a superstar in his own right on the greens by the way. »

When pressed on whether he would help DeChambeau with his putting, Hart added: « You know, we’ll see how the day goes. I think it depends on how he’s putting. Naturally if he’s not doing what I ask or require then I step in and I do the job myself. »

Describing Hart as a « really good caddie, » DeChambeau also revealed that the pair first crossed paths while filming a video together before affording him the privilege of caddying during Wednesday’s contest. When asked about his experience of Augusta National, Hart then said: « First and foremost, it’s history right? And by history, I’m talking about the game now having a Kevin Hart that is adjacent to the level of what we’re seeing here today.

« I am bit by the bug, and I’m bit bad. So me being able to be here, experience this, the fans, really be attached to pros like Bryson and the rest of the phenomenal group there, it’s an amazing experience and I’m really thankful to be a part of it. But today, we do have a focus, it’s to get the job done. I’m here to make sure my guy is prepared, to do what he does best and win. »

When pressed for any parting words for Sky, DeChambeau simply said: « He said it all folks, » before casually strolling away. In a wonderfully comical moment, Hart was then spotted retreating with his hands raised aloft — once again shouting: « I am just a caddie, I’m just a caddie. That’s all I am, guys. »

It comes as DeChambeau is set to enjoy himself alongside Hart during the par three contest on Wednesday, before switching his focus entirely when the opening round of the Masters tees off on Thursday. DeChambeau will get his round underway at 3.07pm BST alongside Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele, as he bids for his maiden Masters title.

A two-time US Open champion, the 32-year-old has never tasted glory at Augusta National — his best result at the opening major of the season being a T5 finish last year alongside Sungjae Im. He will, however, be determined to rewrite that story come Sunday.
