A stunning nine-hour railway journey departing from London’s Eurostar and concluding at a magnificent Spanish beach promises to captivate travellers. The thrilling rail adventure begins at St Pancras station in London, transporting passengers to the scenic shores of La Zurriola, situated in San Sebastián (Donostia), Spain.
The attractive beach is celebrated for its breathtaking backdrop, golden sands, and superb surfing conditions, establishing it as a favoured spot for both residents and visitors. To reach the picturesque beach in San Sebastián from London by train, you will need to start by taking the Eurostar train from London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord, this journey takes approximately two hours and 15 minutes. From Paris, travellers can hop on to a TGV train to Hendaye which will take around five to six hours – and then from San Sebastián’s railway station, passengers can catch a bus or taxi to La Zurriola beach which visitors describe as « truly unforgettable ».

This spectacular beach sits within the Gros neighbourhood, positioned at walkable distance from the railway station, though taking a brief bus or taxi journey may prove more practical, particularly for those with baggage.
The beach provides a dynamic atmosphere featuring an animated promenade dotted with bars, eateries, and boutiques, forming a thriving centre of energy. Among La Zurriola’s most notable characteristics is its standing as one of Europe’s premier surfing destinations.
The official tourism website for the region, San Sebastián Turismoa, described the area on their website: « The promenade running round the beach from Sagüés to the Kursaal ‘cubes’ continues on its way round Monte Urgull and along the Paseo Nuevo to end at the Peine del Viento sculpture on the Concha Bay.
« This spectacular city walk covers around six kilometres and offers spectacular sea views and delightful resting spots along the way.
« From the Zurriola, you can also make your way up to Monte Ulía, a green area only a moment’s walk from the city centre. A former look-out point for whales, Monte Ulía is the city’s best hillwalking option and follows part of the coastal route on the Way of Saint James. »

One tourist took to Tripadvisor after visiting the area writing: « Visiting San Sebastián was truly unforgettable, especially with the breath-taking view of the Atlantic Ocean.
« The coastline is stunning, just a short walk from downtown, where you can surf, swim, or simply relax and soak in the soothing sounds of waves crashing on the shore. »
La Zurriola beach regularly receives powerful swells from the Bay of Biscay, drawing surfers across all abilities, from novices to seasoned experts.
Surf schools and equipment hire establishments serve visitors keen to ride the waves or master the sport.
Beyond surfing, La Zurriola offers possibilities for additional water sports including bodyboarding and paddleboarding.
The beach also stages periodic beach volleyball competitions and various leisure pursuits.
