A major high street chain has announced four new openings as part of a massive £3 million expansion plan. Pets At Home currently operates around 460 stores across the UK, and is a go-to for many British pet owners for things like dog beds, food and toys. The four new stores are slated to open throughout March, with one having already launched in London. The four new locations will be pet care centres, adding more than 20,000 square feet to the brand’s UK estate.
It has been announced that the new stores are located in Giltbrook (Nottingham), Stocksbridge (Sheffield), Kew (London) and Glossop (Derbyshire), offering a range of in-store and veterinary services to customers. The new Pets at Home in Kew, South West London, launched on Friday, March 13. The new 9,911 sq ft store features a pet village, aquatics centre, and specialist support centre. The Glossop store is relocating to a larger 7,663 sq ft petcare centre that includes 24-hour emergency support and veterinary services, as well as an adoption centre.
Meanwhile, the new Vets for Pets practices in Stocksbridge, South Yorkshire, and Giltbrook, Nottinghamshire, will open later this month.
Anja Madsen, chief operating officer at Pets at Home, said these openings are a demonstration of the brand’s commitment to expanding and improving in-store services for UK pet owners.
« Continued investment in our physical estate is central to our retail strategy and to strengthening our wider petcare ecosystem, » she said.
« By modernising our stores and expanding into new locations, we are enhancing the in-person experience that so many of our customers value, from tailored advice to convenient, integrated services. »
Richard Dening-Smitherman, managing director of Vets for Pets, added: « Our unique joint venture model continues to set Vets for Pets apart, giving partners the freedom to run their own practice while benefiting from the scale, investment and infrastructure of the UK’s leading petcare business. »
Pets at Home refers to itself as the UK’s leading petcare business, providing the « best products, services and advice to guide owners through their pet care journey ».
According to its website, it currently has 459 petcare centres, 343 grooming salons and 448 vet practices. It was founded in 1991 by Anthony Preston, with its first store opening in Chester. In 1999, it acquired PetSmart in the UK, bringing the chain to 140 stores.
