Fortnite’s V-Bucks, the premium currency used to buy cosmetic skins and the battle pass, are set to get more expensive from next week.
Announced in a blog post on the Epic Games website, the gaming giant revealed that gamers will receive fewer V-Bucks for their money starting from March 19, 2026. The company says that the reason for the increase is due to running costs for Fortnite going ‘up a lot’ and that it needs to raise prices to ‘pay the bills’.
While $8.99 currently gets gamers 1,000 V-Bucks, that same package will soon earn them only 800 V-Bucks. All the other tiers will also be adjusted as follows:
- $8.99 Pack
- Previously 1,000 V-Bucks
- Now 800 V-Bucks
- $22.99 Pack
- Previously 2,800 V-Bucks
- Now 2,400 V-Bucks
- $36.99 Pack
- 5,000 V-Bucks
- 4,500 V-Bucks
- $89.99 Pack
- Previously 13,500 V-Bucks
- Now 12,500 V-Bucks
However, while the cost of V-Bucks is technically increasing, Battle Pass purchasers will essentially be paying the same amount as before. That’s because Epic Games is also reducing the price of the Battle Pass from 1,000 V-Bucks to 800 V-Bucks, so the $8.99 tier will still get you access to the premium track.
Battle Pass owners will earn less V-Bucks in the pass, though. Only 800 V-Bucks will be included going forward, down from the usual 1,000. In addition, no premium currency will be given away in the free track like they currently are.
Epic Games clarifies that any V-Bucks gift cards already purchased will still redeem the same amount of currency printed on their labels. It won’t matter if you redeem them before or after the changes come into effect.
Fortnite fans are skeptical about the reasons Epic Games has given for the price increase, though. “They expect us to believe they aren’t sitting on billions in profit? They could stop selling MTX and keep this game running for the next 20 years,” writes one Reddit user.
Another adds: “Them pretending that this is to ensure Fortnite remains sustainable is hilarious.”
In the most recent year in review for Epic Games, the company boasted that third party game spending was up 57%. It also reported $1.16 billion in spending on PC, although it doesn’t specify how that translated to profit.
Fortnite is set to begin Chapter 7 Season 2 on March 19, 2026 – the same day that the new V-Bucks pricing tiers come into effect. If you’re looking to stock up on the premium currency, now is currently the time to do it.
