Fortnite developer Epic Games is about to add lots of new content to the game, although the good news ends there. According to Epic Games, Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 2 ‘Showdown’ is coming to PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and Android on March 19. It adds new content such as a Battle Pass, POIs, weapons and lots more. Unfortunately, however, the good news ends there, because the new content won’t be available until server maintenance comes to an end. Fortnite will be taken offline at 6am GMT UK time, while matchmaking is disabled shortly beforehand.
The news was announced by Epic Games on X, alongside a confirmation of the server downtime.
« Choose your side, take down your rivals, and settle the score, » reads an Epic tweet. « The Showdown begins March 19!
« Downtime for v40.00 begins at 2 AM ET (6 AM UTC) with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand. »
For UK fans, this means that Fortnite will be taken offline in full at 6am GMT, while matchmaking will be disabled at 5.30am UK time. That’s 11pm PT (March 17) / 2am ET / 7am CET if you live outside of the UK.
According to the Fortnite server status page, the maintenance will last for around 5-hours.
This means Fortnite and all companion game modes should be back online from 11am GMT UK time at the earliest. (4am PT / 7am ET / 12pm CET.)
Daily Express will update this article with all the latest developments, so keep checking back for confirmation about the Fortnite server maintenance.
It’s worth noting that all Fortnite game modes will be unplayable during the server downtime, including Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival.
You’ll also need to download and install the update before you can access the content available in the new season.
Fortunately, some fans can download and install update 40.00 ahead of schedule, but only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
« Pre-downloads for the v40.00 update on Xbox One, Series X|S and PlayStation 5 will begin rolling out at 8 PM ET tonight, » reads a follow-up tweet.
« Make sure your system is set up to download updates so you’re ready to jump in! »
