As we approach the end of another wildly successful year for film, it is time to look at the future – and 2026 is shaping up to be quite something. A first-look teaser trailer for Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson has just dropped, and we are already so excited. The film follows a young couple in the lead-up to their nuptials.
With Zendaya and Pattinson leading the cast lineup, Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson will star in supporting roles alongside Zoë Winters, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, and Hailey Gates.
The Drama’s synopsis reads: « Days before their wedding, a couple’s relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other. »
On Instagram, A24 posted a fictionalised engagement announcement, which allows more insight into Zendaya and Pattinson’s characters. Emma is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and her father is a military veteran. She attended Boston University, where she earned a degree in English, and she currently works at Mission Books. (Whether that’s a bookstore or a publishing company remains to be seen.) Charlie, on the other hand, is from London and earned his PhD in art history from Tufts University. He is now the director of the Cambridge Arts Museum.
The teaser trailer depicts the pair awkwardly navigating a pre-wedding photoshoot that gets alarm bells ringing. But tensions truly rise as we gain a look into their complex relationship.
Under the trailer, fans have commented, sharing their excitement for the 2026 movie.
The film’s trailer is the first of three films that will be released next year, in which Zendaya and Pattinson will feature together.
One stated: “Crazy that we’re going to get three Zendaya and Robert Pattinson pairing movies in 2026, with the Drama, the Odyssey and Dune: part 3.”
Another expressed: “I’m sensing 2026 will be the year we of romance AND drama in films! I love that we are getting more of this genre back.”
“I can already tell their chemistry is going to be good,” added a third.
The film looks set to be a highlight of 2026 cinema, with a few surprises to keep us guessing.
The Drama is released in UK cinemas from April 3.
