Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor made one brutal comment about Meghan Markle on the day of King Charles’s coronation in May 2023. Despite tensions with his family, Prince Harry travelled to the UK to support his father on his big day at Westminster Abbey.
The 41-year-old travelled without Meghan, who opted to stay back in California with their two children. In his latest book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, which was released last month, author Tom Bower shared how tensions were high between Harry and his disgraced uncle.
Mr Bower wrote: « In the driving rain, Harry arrived at the abbey with Andrew.
« The disgraced prince [Andrew] was, at the time, still refusing the king’s order to move to Frogmore [Cottage, Harry and wife Meghan Markle‘s old home] from Royal Lodge, the 30-bedroom mansion he occupied with his ex-wife, Sarah [Ferguson].
« Relations between the uncle and his nephew were not good. »
He then added that Andrew spoke of Harry’s wife: « In some accounts, Andrew had scathingly dismissed Meghan as an ‘opportunist’. »
According to author Andrew Lownie, Andrew’s relationship with Prince William was « not much better » – as he was also rude to his wife.
Citing Mr Lownie’s 2025 book, Entitled, a source said: « [Andrew’s] relationship with William is not much better. There have been tensions between the two men for years, partly occasioned by Andrew being rude about Kate [Middleton]. »
Meghan could be set to travel to the UK with Harry this summer to attend the one-year countdown event for the 2027 Invictus Games.
Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, could also be set to join their parents.
