The F1 75 Live event was a roaring success at The O2 as all 10 teams launched their new designs for the upcoming campaign. While the entertainment hit the mark, not all of the liveries did.
With all 10 designs out in the open, Express Sport has rated the new paint schemes.
Sauber – 4/10
The neon-green Sauber of 2024 was an interesting new creative direction for the Hinwil-based team. Love it or hate it, the colour scheme helped them stand out on track amid a flurry of blues and blacks. The 2025 design, however, contains much more exposed carbon fibre. Less green means a lower score. Sorry, Sauber.
Williams – 7/10
Williams will arrive in 2025 with a fresh title sponsor in Atlassian, and a new star driver in Carlos Sainz, and their new livery is fit for a team on the rise. A simple but effective blue design with darker tones on the nosecone, the Grove squad’s latest design is an evolution rather than a revolution.
Racing Bulls – 9/10
Without a doubt, the standout design of the night, Racing Bulls’ has overhauled their design for 2025. The squad formerly known as AlphaTauri and Toro Rosso have changed their base colour to white with prominent Red Bull branding on the roll hoop and nose cones. As many fans have pointed out, the new scheme evokes memories of one-off Red Bull liveries in Japan and Istanbul.
Haas – 8/10
Haas’ introduction in London centred around the team’s American identity, perhaps feeling the heat ahead of Cadillac’s arrival in 2026. The design, however, is a striking follow-up to the black-white-and-red combination that returned with the VF-24 last year. The white sidepods are a nice touch and accentuate the Haas branding.
Alpine – 7/10
Alpine’s 2024 car was widely panned for the masses of exposed carbon fibre, so it is good to see Team Enstone dish out a generous helping of paint for the 2025 scheme. The BWT-inspired pink remains prominent on the nose cone and front wing, although the glossy finish on the sidepods and engine cover has divided opinion
Aston Martin – 5/10
It is hard not to consider Aston Martin’s new challenger a downgrade from its four predecessors. The vintage racing green remains prominent, but the bottom half of the car is a carbon fibre mess with flickers of lime green detailing. The silver hints on the roll hoop are a nice addition but not enough to save this design.
Mercedes – 8/10
Mercedes have carried their black base design into 2025, executing a smooth fade into the silver nose cone. The signature Petronas blue intersects the side pods well and adds a flash of colour to this stealthy design. Classy and straightforward from the Silver Arrows.
Red Bull – 6/10
If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. As Max Verstappen jokes on a sim racing live stream during the off-season, Red Bull’s new look is… well, not so new. The reigning world champion will hit the track in the team’s classic if unspectacular paint scheme in 2025.
Ferrari – 8/10
When Lewis Hamilton hits the track in Bahrain for the first time, he will do so in an eye-catching design befitting of a seven-time world champion. That this livery works as well as it does is something to marvel at. The designers faced a daunting challenge in integrating the clashing blue of new title sponsors Hewlett-Packard into the car, but the white strip across the engine cover limits the damage well. The darker shade of red used in 2025 gives the SF-25 a mean look as the Italian squad prepares for a season for the history books.
McLaren – 4/10
McLaren’s new livery is not so distinguishable from its predecessor. The MCL38 will go down in history for bringing the Woking squad back to the pinnacle of the sport, but it won’t win any hearts as a classic design. With so many sponsors on the car, clashes are inevitable, and the combination of the OKX logo and black strip down the centre of the car makes for a sore sight. However, if the MCL39 rolls out fastest in Melbourne, none of this will matter to Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri.
