Bacvice Beach is one of the most popular ones across the city. The gorgeous stretch of sand can accommodate over ten thousand people. Located at the heart of the city, the beach is perfect for visitors of all ages. Along with beautiful sunshine and beaches, the city of Split has a rich history. Split was founded as the Greek colony of Aspalathos between the 3rd and 2nd century BCE, and walking along its streets is sure to take you back in time.
In fact, Split’s beauty has been recognised since as early as 1,700 years ago. Roman Emperor Diocletian loved the city so much he wanted to build his summer residence “on the other side of the Adriatic. »
According to legend, his crew also branded the area of modern-day Split as « the most beautiful place in the world”.
This history helped Split to be enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, and right until the present day, the city is recognised as a major centre of Croatian culture.
