More legroom is coming to your easyJet flights as lighter weight seats are set to be installed. Due for delivery from 2028, the airline declares the new seats will offer up to two inches of additional legroom for passengers.
These ‘pre-reclined’ seats will grant extra knee and shin clearance without having to change the seat pitch. The British carrier, which is the second biggest in Europe, will be rolling out Kestrel economy seats across its future Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleet for deliveries from 2028. from 2028.
Made by manufacturer Mirus Aircraft seating, it said the deal “marks another positive step in easyJet’s ongoing strategy to reduce emissions and fuel burn, while improving operational efficiency”.
This will cause a weight saving of up to 500kg per aircraft for bigger models in the fleet, according to easyJet.

David Morgan, chief operating officer, said: “We are delighted to be introducing the Mirus Kestrel seat across our future fleet. These low-cost, environmentally friendly carriers are “On top of the sustainability benefits. The additional legroom and enhanced comfort of these seats will deliver an improved onboard experience for our customers which we know they’ll love,” according to Mr Morgan.
The new lighter seats are part of easyJet’s roadmap to net zero by 2050. As part of this, the airline is phasing out its oldest aircraft, including A319 and A320ceos, in favour of more efficient models such as the A320neo and A321neo.
While this change won’t be immediate, the airline is making changes to its current fleet to enhance efficiency.
