The Strait of Hormuz has been rocked by explosions following reports that cargo ships were hit by Iranian missiles. Three commercial ships have been damaged by « unknown projectiles » in the crucial shipping lane, with at least one bursting into flames.
One vessel had reportedly been hit 93km (50 nautical miles) north-west of Dubai. The US military had earlier said it « eliminated » 16 Iranian mine-laying ships in the area, after President Donald Trump warned Iran not to « put out any mines » there. United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre (UKMTO) received a report of a vessel having been hit by an unknown projectile in the key shipping lane, off the coast of Dubai. The crew are reported safe and well.
