Double murderer’s final words before his execution revealed | World | News

A Texan man on death row said, shortly before being administered a lethal injection, that his execution “creates more victims and traumatises more people 28 years » after his crimes. In his last words, he also expressed hope that his victims’ families could « find forgiveness in their heart ». Charles Victor Thompson, 55, was found guilty of the brutal shooting of his ex-girlfriend Glenda Dennise Hayslip and her new partner Darren Keith Cain at her home in 1998.

Before the execution was carried out, he said: « I hope the victims’ family, their extended family, and their loved ones can find forgiveness in their heart and that you can begin to heal and move past this. [There is] no winner in this situation, it creates more victims and traumatises more people 28 years later.

« I’m sorry for what I did. I’m sorry for what happened, and I want to tell all of y’all, I love you and that keep Jesus in your life, keep Jesus first. »

Thompson died via lethal injection at the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville on Wednesday, with his death confirmed at 6.50pm local. He is the first person to executed in the US in 2026.

Following the lethal injection, Thompson gasped loudly and began to snore after a few breaths, AP News reports. His body then became motionless and he was declared dead 22 minutes later.

Back in 1998, Thompson arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s flat around 3am, leading to a violent altercation, according to court records.

Despite police intervention and instructions to leave, he returned several hours later and opened fire on them both, the court records added.

Cain was shot four times, whilst Hayslip suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and cheek. Cain was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas Hayslip succumbed to his injuries in hospital a week later.

Following his conviction for their murders, Thompson broke free from custody and was on the run for three days.
