The American President Donald Trump has said « the best is yet to come » as he prepares to address the nation today (December 17).
Yesterday (December 16), President Trump published a message on Truth saying: « My fellow Americans: I will be giving an address to the nation tomorrow night [December 17, 2am GMT]. I look forward to ‘seeing’ you then. It has been a great year for our country, and the best is yet to come. »
There has been speculation that he could declare war on Venezuela, and people on X have speculated that Mr Trump could launch military action against the country as the White House continues its crackdown on alleged drug trafficking.
The US president has introduced a series of escalating measures to tackle drugs coming from the South American country that many have said could lead to the toppling of its government.
The US President recently alleged that the country ships narcotics to the US, a claim Venezuela denies. Adding to these theories, there are news of Washington’s increased operations in the Caribbean and Pacific, including more than 20 strikes on suspected drug-trafficking vessels this year that have killed nearly 90 people.
Earlier this month, US commandos seized the 332-meter (1,090-feet) ship, the Skipper, which was not where it had appeared to be navigating on ship-tracking platforms. Instead it was some 360 nautical miles to the northwest, near the coast of Venezuela.
This marked a dramatic escalation in Mr Trump’s campaign to pile pressure on Mr Maduro by cutting off access to oil revenues which have long been the lifeblood of the Venezuelan economy.
