Darts cheating row returns with four-word comment in tense handshake | Other | Sport

Mensur Suljovic has continued his row with fellow darts ace Joe Cullen following their fiery World Championship clash in December. Suljovic dumped former Premier League ace Cullen out of the tournament in the second round, with a result that sparked a row between the two players.

Their rivalry was renewed at the Players Championship, with Suljovic taking a 6-2 victory in legs over Cullen. But it was Suljovic’s comment when the pair shook hands that raised eyebrows. He jokingly commented: “You can play normal can’t you, see. You can play normal.”

Given their history, it’s unlikely that Cullen would’ve taken the jibe well, not least because of his previous criticisms of the darts ace. Posting on X after the loss, he said: « If that’s darts, I don’t want no part of it!

« Always liked Mensure away from the board but that was plain for all to see! I don’t think I’m alone in feeling this way. The old guard will say it’s part of the game but word it how you will — it’s CHEATING! That’s not darts. »

Suljovic was left scratching his own head by the claims, replying at the time: « I don’t know, what’s his problem? I give him missed doubles, everything. I like Joe Cullen, a very nice guy. I never ever play slow. I do it only for my game. I’m never doing this for him. Sorry Joe, never do this. I love him man. »

Suljovic lost in the following round at Ally Pally, with Luke Littler overcoming the world No.55. Littler was asked about the “cheating” claims, with the Nuke responding: “A lot of other players, including myself, we have fast throws.

“Obviously, you don’t want to be stood there for as long because you’re getting cold and you just want to get on with it. But Mensur, he’s not going to change for anyone. He’s not going to change for me. He’s just going to do his job and obviously he wants to win. »
