CPAC 2025: Nigel Farage blasts ‘awful’ Starmer government | Politics | News

Nigel Farage has blasted the state of life in Britain by telling an American audience that “everybody’s miserable” under a “Left-wing, awful government”.

The Reform UK leader was speaking at the Right-wing Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland when he turned his attention to life in the UK.

Remarking on “what a time it is to cross the pond” to the US, the Clacton MP said: “My country – you can’t say anything or you might get put in prison.

“We’re getting poorer. Everybody’s miserable. We’re governed by a Left-wing, awful government.

“Suddenly, post-November 5 America is optimistic, it’s upbeat. It’s the beginning of a golden age in America.”

Referring to US president Donald Trump, he added: “And it is all because of one totally extraordinary individual.”

Mr Farage has fiercely campaigned against what he sees as “two-tier” justice in Britain, comparing jail sentences for people who wrote offensive social media posts during the Southport riots to those dished out for other crimes.

Sir Keir Starmer’s Government, which came into office after a thumping July 4 General Election win, has since tried to boost the UK economy – only for there to be sluggish growth.

His administration has also suffered from poor approval ratings after a series of controversial policies, including removing most pensioners’ winter fuel allowance and imposing greater inheritance taxes on farmers.

Mr Farage bemoaned that “when you take on the establishment, they do not come out with a tray of drinks” as he told the story of fighting for Brexit.

He added: “The whole of the British establishment wanted us to be members of the globalist European Union – all the parties, all the big businesses, all the trade unions.

“And it was almost me alone saying ‘this is a crazy idea – we want control of our sovereignty, our borders, and our identity back with the British people’.

“For daring to say that, they made my life hell.”

Elsewhere in his speech, Mr Farage took a brutal swipe at Prince Harry – telling the American audience: “You keep him!”

Mr Farage went on to declare that his insurgent party would win the next general election in the UK and « save our country ».
