People armed with swords and machetes shocked eyewitnesses with a terrifying display of broad daylight on Monday, according to firsthand accounts. The chaotic fight broke out in Forest Gate, East London, at around 4:41pm, with passers-by forced to flee and a 17-year-old boy sustaining stab wounds in the altercation.
The teenager escaped to a nearby youth centre, according to UKNIP, before being treated by paramedics and rushed to hospital. The area around Chestnut Avenue and Woodford Road has reportedly been cordoned off, with a large police presence at the scene while forensic investigations continue. Nearby residents told the news website of their fears around increasing youth crime rates and a rise in dangerous weapons on London’s streets.
The teenager’s current condition is unknown and investigations are ongoing. Specialist units including scene of crime officers and blood-sniffer dogs were reportedly spotted at the scene.
Local organisations including schools and youth centres have also been told to « remain vigilant » as enquiries continue, UKNIP said.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: « Officers responded to reports of an altercation in Woodford Road, 37 at 4:42pm on Tuesday, March 18.
« A 17-year-old boy was treated at the scene for a stab wound. He was later taken to hospital, where he remains. The extent of his injuries are yet to be confirmed.
« A crime scene is in place and no arrests have been made at this early stage. »
