Brit stuck in Dubai with cancer terrified for her health | UK | News

Linzi Stone, from Plymouth, has stage three cancer and was due to start chemotherapy on Friday. Her flight is booked for Wednesday but is not sure whether she will make it back in time to begin her treatment amid the continued delays. The 47-year-old said she is in pain and is worried her condition could be deteriorating.

Speaking to BBC News, she said: “I thought we would be back on Sunday and now I am worried the cancer will get worse because I have not had chemo in time. »

She added: « I feel like my health is getting worse and I am in quite a lot of pain and would rather be with [a] doctor.

« For me it is really stressful and if something happens to me or I go downhill, what do we do? »

Ms Stone has been in the United Arab Emirates on holiday with her family. The country is one of the several Gulf nations to have come under attack from Iran in retaliation over the US-Israeli strikes which began on Saturday and killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Stones have been staying in a hotel on The Palm which has been hit by debris from an intercepted Iranian attack. The family are reportedly due to fly back home with Virgin Airways on Wednesday morning but are unsure whether it will take off.

A Virgin spokesperson told the BBC the flight was « subject to ongoing assessments and if there are any flight changes, they will receive information ». A handful of flights started leaving Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest international hub, on Monday evening.

The airport said it is prioritising departures as it resumes “limited” flight operations. A handful of commercial flights are already bringing thousands of stranded Britons back to the UK from the region.

Emirates was scheduled to operate four flights to the UK from Dubai on Tuesday, while Etihad Airways had one UK flight scheduled from Abu Dhabi.

Virgin Atlantic cut a flight from Dubai to Heathrow, while British Airways cancelled its timetabled flights to Heathrow from Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain, Doha and Dubai.

About half a million passengers per day use airports in Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi, which are vital hubs for travel between Europe and the continents of Asia and Australia.

Some Britons stranded in the Middle East are set to be repatriated on a Government charter flight from Muscat in Oman in the coming days.
