Bridget Jones fans have days left before ‘all time classic’ is removed | Films | Entertainment

A beloved romantic comedy hailed as a « masterpiece » is set to disappear from Prime Video within days.

First hitting cinemas in 2001, Bridget Jones’s Diary charts the journey of singleton Bridget Jones, who documents her chaotic romantic escapades, personal insecurities and daily tribulations in her diary.

Despite being over two decades old, this rom-com continues to captivate audiences, boasting a stellar cast including Renee Zellweger in the titular role alongside Hugh Grant as the charming Daniel Cleaver. Colin Firth also features prominently as Mark Darcy, another contender for Bridget’s affections.

The film has become an annual tradition for devoted viewers who return to it time and again. Yet Prime Video subscribers face a tight deadline, with the beloved classic departing the platform in under a fortnight.

Starting from today (December 16), viewers have a mere 11 days remaining to catch Bridget Jones’s Diary on Prime Video. The streaming service describes it as follows: « When a single career woman chronicles her thoughts and insecurities in a diary she soon becomes the centre of attention between two men in this hilarious romantic comedy. »

Those holding a Netflix subscription can still access the film there, though this excludes customers on the advert-supported tier, reports the Mirror. Netflix clarifies: « Unavailable on an advert-supported plan due to licensing restrictions. »

Fans can tune in to BBC One tonight (December 16) at 10.40pm to catch the film, which will subsequently be available for streaming on BBC iPlayer for a limited period – so viewers must act swiftly.

Bridget Jones’s Diary has stood the test of time as an iconic film, with unforgettable scenes such as the infamous big knickers, encapsulating the challenges women often encounter in society.

Boasting a solid 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film continues to garner praise, with one viewer stating: « A romcom Classic. Zellweger is excellent and the best thing in this. Probably her most iconic role and for good reason. »

Another fan declared: « Masterpiece of romantic comedy made not just with craftsmanship but with heart and soul by all involved, maybe because back in 2001 the concept was genuine and innovative that it inspired all. »

A third commented: « My Christmas go to movie every year. Love her. »

A fourth wrote: « Romcom aside, an all-around classic and one of my favourites. I can watch this a hundred times on the couch any time I’m up for a light-hearted movie, and put aside my troubles for a night. »

An IMDB user succinctly described it as « Ridiculously hilarious ».

For those who can’t get enough of Bridget Jones, there are several sequels to enjoy after Bridget Jones’s Diary, including Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016), and the more recent Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025).

Bridget Jones’s Diary can be streamed on Prime Video.
