Boyfriend suspected of beheading partner who ‘was pressuring him to get married’ | World | News

A man allegedly beheaded his partner because she was « pressurising him to get married ». The victim was reportedly lured to a secluded area before her head was dumped around 500 metres away from her body.

Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Vikas Kumar, following the death of Babli Devi on Sunday, March 15. The pair, who worked together at a hospital in Delhi, India, were in a relationship with Vikas, 32, under pressure from Babli, 38, to get married. Police said he was « unable to handle the pressure » so « conspired to eliminate her ».

As reported by India Today, Vikas and Aman Kumar have been arrested following the reported murder. A third person, identified as Sachin, was also said to be involved but has yet to be arrested.

The three suspects reportedly took Babli to a secluded location on a motorbike before cutting her head off. They then dumped the head away from the body to avoid identification before fleeing the scene in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

A police investigation was launched after a headless body was found near a canal in a forested stretch of Ghunghrawali village. Detectives shared Babli’s picture on social media before she was identified by her family.

Senior police officer Shankar Prasad said: « The body and head were disposed of at separate places to conceal identity. » Officers reportedly found the weapon used in the murder as well as illegal firearms after Vikas Kumar was arrested.

Local media reported that the pair had lived together in Delhi after Babli’s husband died of cancer two-and-a-half years ago. Vikas had previously worked with Babli’s late husband at a private hospital and was known to the family.

However, their relationship started to collapse after Vikas decided to marry someone else last December. Meanwhile, Babli was said to be pressuring him to stay with and marry her.

Following the reported beheading, Vikas attended a family event in his local village. He then filed a missing person complaint to the local authorities.
