An airport in Asia has been hailed as the best in the world for its tropical features.
Going to the airport to begin your travel journey or holiday can be a stressful and chaotic experience but Samui Airport on the Koh Samui island in Thailand is very different from many others. It has a large outdoor grassy waiting area full of bean bags, swings, palm trees and you can even watch planes take off without there being a barrier separating passengers from the runway.
Although there are several airports in picturesque, exotic locations, the Samui Airport website claims it “holds the crown as the most beautiful and the best designed in tune with its gorgeous natural surroundings”. Jessica Jayne shared a video on TikTok discussing what she thought of the Thai airport.
She said: “This is the world’s best airport where you can drink fresh coconuts while chilling on bean bags watching the planes take off. Normally I find the airport experience pretty stressful.
“Usually everything feels super chaotic and super rushed but this airport is different.” As Jessica walked through the airport, she spotted some “really nice cafes” and then the open space with the bean bags which she described as “those big, soft bean bags that you just sink into.”
She even admitted that she could “probably have a nap” while sitting on one of the comfy, cushioned chairs. Jessica added: “The thing that I found most surprising is that there is no barrier separating us from the runway like they just trust that no one is going to run onto the runway.”
The passenger continued: “Hands down the best part of this airport is that the cafe sells fresh coconuts. I obviously had to get one.
“This cost £2.85. It just tasted so good. This is probably the most relaxed I’ve ever felt before getting on a flight.”
Jessica was even more impressed when she arrived at her gate and noticed the ‘courtesy counter’ where you can get free food and drinks, including snacks, cupcakes and cookies. She also found a coffee machine where you can get juice and iced coffee.
The Thailand tourist concluded her TikTok video: “This has to be one of the best airport experiences I’ve ever had.” Samui Airport is privately owned and operated by Bangkok Airways.
Most flights from the island are operated by Bangkok Airways. Thai Airways international began flights to Samui in February 2008.
Samui Airport is located at the northern part of Koh Samui island near Bo Phut Beach. Construction began in 1982 and it was officially opened in April 1989.
The caption of Jessica’s TikTok clip reads: “I had no idea airports like this existed! The most relaxed I’ve ever felt before getting on a flight.”
It has received a staggering 1.1 million views, 49,800 likes and more than 400 comments. One user said: “Koh Samui airport is the cutest airport I’ve ever seen.”
A second added: “Samui airport is amazing. First time I was there it was just huts.” A third chimed in: “Samui airport is unmatched. It’s part of the whole island experience.”
