Baby tragically dies aged just 11 months old sparking police investigation | UK | News

Police have launched an investigation after an 11-month-old baby boy died at a home in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to an address in the Deneside area of Seaham at around 8.45am on Thursday following reports of an incident involving a child. Durham Constabulary confirmed the baby had tragically died and said officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A police spokesperson said the force was working to establish what happened.

Officers remained at the property while enquiries were carried out.

The North East Ambulance Service said it received a call earlier that morning reporting an incident at a private address in the town.

A spokesperson for the service said: “We received a call at 8.36am on Thursday, March 12, to reports of an incident at a private address in Seaham.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic and a duty officer to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service.”

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the baby boy was pronounced dead.

Police have not yet released further details about the circumstances of the incident but confirmed investigations are ongoing.

Seaham, a coastal town in County Durham, saw emergency vehicles at the scene while officers began inquiries into the tragic death.
