Fresh revelations from Jeffrey Epstein’s emails suggest an associate of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor sought help from the paedophile to buy property in one of the world’s most secretive countries. David Stern, who worked alongside the former Duke of York at Pitch@Palace, approached the convicted sex offender in 2018 asking for advice on how to access North Korea, documents suggest.
In one message he wrote that he wanted to “see No.1” — widely interpreted as a reference to dictator Kim Jong-un — and asked whether US political figures could help him gain entry. Two days later, he followed up, pressing Epstein on whether former Trump adviser Steve Bannon could assist, adding that he wanted to buy “prime real estate” in the isolated state and had “the money” to do so. Epstein reportedly replied that he was “not sure about sanctions”.
The exchanges are contained within the latest trove of Epstein communications released by the US Department of Justice.

More than three million files related to Epstein have been released (Image: Getty)
They suggest that Mr Stern acted as a conduit between Epstein and Mr Mountbatten-Windsor during the years Pitch@Palace operated out of Buckingham Palace.
The revelations raise more questions about Andrew’s inner circle during the timeframe in which he is known to have had a relationship with the disgraced financier Epstein.
Mr Stern, a German financier fluent in Mandarin, had cultivated extensive business interests in Asia.
He was a formal aide to Andrew, and was made director of Andrew’s Pitch@Palace business venture.
He was also introduced to the late Queen Elizabeth II and sat next to her at an event at St James’s Palace.

According to The Telegraph, Mr Stern also struck a secret business pact with the Chinese state through his health technology fund in 2013.
Correspondence suggests he and Epstein sought to leverage the former duke’s influence to expand networks in China.
Photographs show Mountbatten-Windsor meeting some of Stern’s contacts in Britain and overseas, and the German accompanied him on trips to China and South-East Asia while he served as trade envoy.
After leaving Pitch@Palace in 2019, Stern moved into advisory and consultancy roles, including work connected to Madison Square Garden Entertainment.
A planned project to bring a Sphere venue to Seoul ultimately failed to materialise. He is now understood to be based in Abu Dhabi.
Stern also once asked Epstein to become godfather to his child — a request he declined while describing him as a “good friend”.
Being included in the Epstein files does not in itself suggest wrongdoing.
The Express has not managed to find publicly available contact details for Mr Stern. It has contacted St George’s House Trust, which, according to Companies House, Mr Stern was the director of before resigning.
