When you’re travelling, there are so many things you need to think about, but a specific detail you often have to consider is what to wear when travelling on a plane, as some clothes are best avoided. There are all sorts of reasons you need to be picky when it comes to your airport attire.

Now passport holders have been urged to stop wearing a popular colour when travelling on planes, as it can carry big consequences. While it may not seem significant, the colour you wear is actually crucial, as one seasoned traveller recently pointed out why it’s so important to be vigilant.

It’s not the only travel advice passport holders have been given recently either. A few weeks ago, it was also revealed a common mistake could lead to lengthy airport queues.

Lauren Tan shared her recent experience on TikTok to tell people what they need to avoid doing. She detailed all in a candid video.

She said: « Guys, this is your Public Service Announcement (PSA) to never wear shorts on a flight, because look at this. In case you’re wondering, yes, I’m wearing a pair of white shorts. »

In the clip, Lauren wipes the plane seat four times to show how dirty it is. Each wipe ends up covered in black marks, leaving her wondering what it would take to get them totally clean.

If you’re wearing white, this is obviously problematic, as it’s super easy to get dirty. As well as this, if your legs are exposed, it probably isn’t that hygienic either.

Since the video was shared, it’s been viewed several times. People were quick to comment too.

One person said: « That’s why I only wear black pants on a flight. » Another added: « The seat belts – be sure to clean them too. They’re worse than the seats. »

A third replied: « Shorts are only for sports and home. Simple. » Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: « Between the arrival and departure they do not have much time to clean and prepare the cabin, especially for budget and short-haul flights. »

Why should it be avoided?

Generally, people should avoid wearing white on planes for a few reasons. The colour can easily pick up stains, dirt and grime which is commonly found at airports and on planes.

The limited, cramped environment makes staining from food, drinks and overhead bin luggage more likely. This shows up much more clearly on light colours, and can even ruin clothes permanently.

Even though white t-shirts are sometimes recommended for a « clean » look, travellers are encouraged to opt for darker shades to hide accidental spills. This will make you look cleaner on arrival.

Meanwhile, shorts should also be avoided too as this will help to minimise the chance of bacteria coming into contact with your skin from the seats. Trousers offer a hygienic barrier against germs, protect against cold cabin temperatures, help prevent sticking to leather seats and provide safety in emergency situations.

Therefore, there are two things to take away. Don’t wear white or shorts when travelling on planes.
