« We have arrested a man following reports of an altercation in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of this morning, Monday 6 May.
« We were contacted at around 4.45am following reports of a fight between two males close to Clayton Square during which it was reported one male threatened the other with a firearm.
« There is no suggestion a firearm was used and there are no reports of any injuries.
« Following CCTV and witness enquiries officers detained a 37-year-old man in the city centre and arrested him on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate. He is currently in custody.
« No firearm has been recovered and enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
