F1 star Lance Stroll confirms switch to another racing series | F1 | Sport

Lance Stroll has been confirmed among the entrants to a GT race later this month – with Max Verstappen’s GT team also joining the entry list. April is a barren month for Formula 1 racing after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

There have been rumours that some drivers might take part in other racing series. Verstappen will surely return to the Nurburgring for another round of the NLS series, after racing there in March, though rumours suggesting Liam Lawson could return to his native New Zealand to take part in a motorsport event there are believed to be wide of the mark.

But it is now confirmed that Aston Martin driver Stroll has taken the opportunity to try his hand at a different type of racing. His name is on the entry list for a GT World Challenge event at Circuit Paul Ricard in France later this month. Naturally, he’ll be behing the wheel of an Aston Martin operated by Comtoyou Racing alongside team-mates Roberto Merhi and Mari Boya.

His name is not the only one on the entry list which will be instantly recognised by F1 fans, with Team Verstappen also among the entrants to the race. The Dutchman himself is not scheduled to take part, however, with his team-mates Chris Lulham, Dani Juncadella and Jules Gounon the ones slated to share the Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO for the six-hour race.

Valentino Rossi is another high-profile name on the entry list, the Italian set to drive a BMW operated by Team WRT. He is best known for his extraordinary success in motorcycle racing as a seven-time MotoGP world champion, but has pivoted to GT racing in recent years and will be behind the wheel of one of the pre-event favourite cars to potentially win the Paul Ricard race.

As well as Mercedes, Aston Martin and BMW, other huge automotive names set to take part in the race include Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren. There will also be a couple of Audis and a Corvette on track in the Gold and Silver categories, which won’t be in contention for overall victory against the professional drivers.
