US President Donald Trump threatened to « blast Iran into oblivion » and « back to the stone age » in a furious Truth Social post on Wednesday as he rejected a ceasefire agreement with Tehran. Trump added that America will consider this when the « Hormuz Strait is open, free and clear ».
He added that Iran’s New Regime President, who he says is « much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors » is the person asked for a ceasefire. Up to now, Iranian officials have so far denied seeking a ceasefire, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisting Tehran wants a complete end to the conflict rather than a temporary pause in fighting. There has been no further confirmation of a ceasefire request from Iran, and at this stage, it is not clear if the Iranian president has the power to speak on behalf of the regime. Trump has previously insisted the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would not be an issue for the United States, suggesting it would happen quickly once the conflict is over.
Trump is expected to deliver televised remarks on the Iran war at 2am UK time on Thursday morning.
Speaking on Wednesday, Donald Trump also told The Telegraph he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of Nato after it failed to join his war on Iran.
He told the paper he sees the alliance as a « paper tiger » and was considering pulling the US out of the bloc.
