A man has been charged with allegedly selling his wife to 120 men for sex. The 62-year-old is accused of exploiting his « vulnerable » wife to have sex with the men for money over the course of three years.
The man, a former Hell’s Angel, has been charged with aggravated pimping, as well as several rapes and assaults. He was arrested last October after his wife reported him to the police in northern Sweden. He reportedly set up online adverts to arrange sexual meetings where he would pressure his wife « to perform and submit to sexual acts ». He is also accused of feeding the woman’s drug addiction, which made her increasingly vulnerable to manipulation.
Prosecutors in Sweden labelled the man’s treatment of his wife as « ruthless exploitation ». As well as being charged with aggravated pimping, the suspect has also been charged with eight rapes, four attempted rapes and four assaults between August 11, 2022 and October 21, 2025.
Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt said the woman, who is vulnerable, « agreed to sell sex » to « some extent ». However, she refused to have sex with certain people or under certain circumstances.
Annerstedt said: « There are certain boundaries she has had. When he hasn’t respected them, when he has steamrolled her after she has said ‘no’, those are the situations when he is charged with attempted rape, or rape. »
Prosecutors have charged 26 men with buying sex related to the case. The remaining men are under investigation.
Sweden’s Minister for Gender Equality, Nina Larsson, said on X: « Men should stop meddling in buying and selling women’s bodies. The media’s reports on the « Swedish Pelicot case » are shocking and disgusting.
« The government has tightened penalties for sexual offences and increased efforts against prostitution and human trafficking; that work must continue, and this spring I will return with an action plan.
« It is a serious crime to purchase a sexual act in itself, but in addition, pimping is also closely associated with other forms of serious criminality. »
The suspect denies the allegations. His trial is scheduled to start on Monday, April 13.
