The Masters is just a little over a week away as the world’s finest golf stars put the final touches on their preparations for the first major of the year. The cream of the crop from the sport will meet at Augusta National between April 9 and 12 to vie for the coveted green jacket, as millions tune in worldwide to watch the spectacle unfold.
Rory McIlroy heads into the tournament as the defending champion, thanks to his play-off win over Justin Rose at last year’s instalment. A significant win for the Northern Irishman, McIlroy finally completed the Career Grand Slam by securing the last missing major accolade for his impressive collection.
Despite high hopes that fans would witness the return of Tiger Woods following an almost two year absence from the competitive game – his last outing landing in the form of the 2024 Open Championship – it now appears almost certain that the 50-year-old will not participate.

Woods was arrested at the weekend after flipping his Land Rover in Jupiter, Florida, charged with driving under the influence, destruction of property and failing to submit a lawful test. However, the 15-time major champion is still set to meet with Masters chairman, Fred Ridley, this week to celebrate a project at ‘The Patch’ – a municipal golf course where the pro’s team designed a short course, as well as an overhaul of the public course.
Elsewhere, Gary Woodland reigned supreme at the Houston Open at the weekend, securing his first win since his 2023 surgery to remove a brain tumour. The 41-year-old paid an emotional tribute to his family and his team in his winning speech.
