Cruise passengers are being urged to think twice before packing a popular fashion trend, as wearing certain clothing could land holidaymakers in serious trouble abroad. Camouflage prints may seem like a harmless style choice, but in a number of popular cruise destinations, wearing this military-inspired design is actually illegal. Travellers visiting parts of the Caribbean are particularly at risk.
Several islands enforce strict bans on camouflage clothing, meaning tourists could face hefty fines or even jail time if caught wearing it in public. This rule applies to everyone including children and also includes any items that are made with camouflage material such as bags or hats for example. Carnival Cruise Line has issued guidance warning passengers of how it could be illegal at several ports of call. The cruise company highlighted destinations including The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada, Dominica and Saint Lucia as places where the restriction is enforced.

Carnival writes: « All guests are expected to ensure their clothing and accessories are respectful to fellow guests and reflect our family-friendly atmosphere.
« Specifically, items worn during the cruise should not contain any message that may be considered offensive or contain nudity, profanity, sexual innuendos/suggestions.
« In addition, clothing and accessories should not promote negative ethnic or racial commentary, hatred, or threats of violence in any form.
« In some ports of call, it is against the law for anyone, including children, to wear army-style camouflage clothing or carry items made with camouflage material.
« Ports include (but not limited to) The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica and St.Lucia. Before travelling, please check local laws of each port to ensure compliance with regulations. »
This doesn’t just apply to the Caribbean. Other places where it is prohibited include Uganda, Saudi Arabia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Madagascar, Guyana and Ghana.

In a separate update, Carnival Cruise Line recently confirmed it has cancelled a number of upcoming sailings as part of changes to its itinerary plans.
The cruise line has cancelled 11 cruises aboard the Carnival Firenze scheduled between October and November 2026. Featuring Florence-inspired design, Italian dining, and Carnival’s signature onboard activities, the cruise ship sails from its home port in Long Beach, California, to destinations along the Pacific coast, such as Baja Mexico ports like Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada.
A Carnival spokesperson said in a statement. “Due to changes to itinerary plans, we have cancelled sailings aboard Carnival Firenze scheduled between October 12, 2026, and November 16, 2026.
“Guests booked on the affected sailings, as well as their travel advisors, have been notified directly.
« We have apologised to our impacted guests and are offering them the option to rebook another Carnival cruise with their cruise fare protected on a comparable sailing in similar accommodations, along with an onboard credit.
« Guests who choose not to reschedule will receive a full refund of their cruise fare and any pre-purchased items to the original form of payment. »
