Tiger Woods’ custody photograph has been released following his arrest in connection with suspected drink-driving.
The golfing legend was apprehended on Friday after a vehicle collision near his Jupiter Island home in Florida.
Sheriff John Budensiek informed reporters in the hours after the incident that Woods consented to breathalyser tests, which recorded 0.00 per cent alcohol, but declined urine testing, meaning Florida law will leave one aspect of the crash unexplained by authorities.
New photographs show the crash site with Woods standing next to the damaged vehicle, and his custody image was subsequently released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The photograph shows Woods wearing a blue polo shirt, consistent with images taken at the accident scene where he was spotted on his mobile phone.
Sheriff Budensiek described the 50 year old’s state immediately following the collision when emergency services arrived at the scene.
After finding Woods having left the overturned Land Rover, Budensiek revealed that while the sporting icon was unhurt, he may have been impaired by substances other than alcohol, reports the Mirror US. « Again, he was lethargic on scene, but that, we believe, was because of what he was intoxicated on, » he told reporters, noting that no narcotics or pharmaceuticals were found inside the vehicle.
Budensiek also revealed that, while Woods had been taken into custody, the golfing legend wouldn’t receive preferential treatment, though he would be housed separately from the general prison population.
« Let me go back to the simplicity of this – we’re the sheriff’s office, » the sheriff continued. « We know we arrested a high-profile figure. I’m not trying to dramatize, but it doesn’t matter who you are. If you break the law, we’re going to follow the law. That’s a really easy path to take.
« Now, as far as being in the jail, we’re going to make sure he’s safe. We’re not going to put him in general population. He’s not going to be with other inmates that could hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did. He’ll pay the price, but he’s not going to pay the price by getting punished in jail. »
What the future holds for Woods as he faces fresh legal troubles remains unclear. The 50 year old had recently returned to golf, playing for his Jupiter Links Golf Club in the TGL against the Los Angeles Golf Club earlier this week.
Before this, he had been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, which sidelined him for the 2025 season. Despite this, the champion had hinted at a potential return at Augusta, though Trump has ruled out any chance of Woods participating in The Masters.
When probed by reporters on Friday about the recent car incident, the usually vocal Trump seemed more restrained. « I feel so badly, » he conveyed. « Really close friend of mine, amazing person, amazing man. He’s got some difficulty. » He further stated: « I don’t want to talk about it. »
