There’s a reason why these natural pools are among the most beautiful places in the UK (Image: Getty Images)
One of the most beautiful places in the UK has been named, with ‘magical’ natural turquoise pools lined with waterfalls and set against the backdrop of dramatic mountains.
The UK is home to some of the most striking and breathtaking landscapes. From the Devonshire golden-sand beaches that cover the rugged coast with chalk-white cliffs, to the winding valleys and rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales, and the serene Lake District, England’s largest national park.
There’s also the dramatic terrain of the Isle of Skye in Scotland, characterised by its towering mountain peaks, crystal-clear waters and emerald-green valleys. The striking landscapes could easily be mistaken for those in New Zealand, and feel as though you’ve stepped into a scene from The Lord of the Rings.

Against the otherworldly landscapes of the Isle of Skye, the largest island in the Inner Hebrides, are some iconic landmarks, including the Old Man of Storr, a mountain on the Trotternish peninsula, offering a steep hike among its rocky peaks. Yet, it’s the picturesque Fairy Pools, nestled in the enchanting Scottish hills with a majestic mountain backdrop, that have been named one of the UK’s most beautiful places by Enjoy Travel.
The Fairy Pools are crystal-clear turquoise waters nestled among rock pools and lined with waterfalls on the River Brittle in Glenbrittle, near the village of Carbost. The name stems from local folklore as a fairies’ meeting spot or a place for selkies to bathe, but today it’s used to describe the fairytale-esque, magical atmosphere this natural beauty emits.
During the summer, the natural spring pools glisten in the sun, creating an enchanting ambience, and have become popular with visitors who take a refreshing dip. In winter, the pools are just as captivating, set against the backdrop of towering mountains and surrounding moorland, creating a powerful and moody scene.

So it’s no wonder that the travel booking website and comparison site, Enjoy Travel, ranked the Fairy Pools as one of their top 50 most beautiful places in the UK for 2026. They noted that the « natural spring pools, lined with small waterfalls, sparkle in the summer and winter sun, adding a magical element to them ».
The Fairy Pools are a popular attraction among travellers exploring the stunning terrain of the Isle of Skye, come rain or shine. Following a visit last year, one holidaymaker shared on TripAdvisor: « Absolutely magical stop, the pools themselves are incredible, their surroundings make them even more so. Lots of great photography opportunities. »
There are numerous natural pools to admire as you follow an adjacent path, and of course, plenty of photo opportunities. There’s also a nearby car park, which requires a walk to the Fairy Pools, so be sure to wear suitable shoes and clothing, with the Scottish weather being somewhat unpredictable, with rays of sunshine one minute and a downpour the next.

Due to their popularity, many visitors have advised arriving early to avoid the crowds, particularly during the summer months. But it’s well worth an early start to admire this enchanting natural beauty.
« Arrive at sunrise and beat the crowds. The Fairy Pools are everything you imagine and more. One of my favourite places in Scotland. Can get very, very busy – which would ruin the overall experience for me – hence arriving before dawn. So many photos taken! Stunning! » another traveller shared.
