An Iranian missile attack on Friday resulted in at least 10 US service members being injured and inflicted damage to several aircraft at a military base in Saudi Arabia, as per two US officials privy to the incident.
The strike, which involved an Iranian missile and drones, came a day after President Donald Trump proclaimed Iran has been « obliterated » and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth asserted that « never in recorded history has a nation’s military been so quickly and so effectively neutralized. »
US Central Command disclosed earlier on Friday that over 300 service members have sustained injuries during the month-long conflict. While the majority of those wounded have recovered and resumed duties, 30 remained unfit for service and 10 were deemed seriously injured.
This is not the first time that Prince Sultan Air Base has been targeted by Iran. Army Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, 26, was injured during a 1 March attack on the base and passed away several days later. He is among the 13 service members who have lost their lives in the war.

Satellite imagery seemingly showing the damage to the aircraft has been circulated online. The strike was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. The Trump administration presented a 15-point proposal for a possible ceasefire to Iran, with Pakistan acting as a mediator.
Iran has dismissed suggestions that negotiations are taking place, while its control of the Strait of Hormuz has driven fuel prices upwards and disrupted the global economy. Tehran on Friday, however, announced it agreed to allow humanitarian aid and agricultural shipments through the critical waterway.
Despite discussions of negotiations, the Pentagon is preparing to send at least 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division – a unit trained to parachute into hostile or contested terrain to secure vital territory and airfields – to the Middle East in the coming days.
The military is also presently deploying two Marine units that will add roughly 5,000 Marines and thousands of sailors to the region.
